Terms of Service

1. Who we are

baku (“baku,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a service operated by Chester Leung as an individual. By creating an account or using baku (the “Service”), you agree to these Terms of Service (the “Terms”). If you don’t agree, please don’t use baku.

2. What baku is — and what it isn’t

baku is an informational tracking tool. You tell us which cards you hold and we show you the credits and perks associated with those cards and help you mark which ones you’ve used. That’s it.

• baku is not a bank, financial advisor, or financial institution, and we do not provide financial, tax, or legal advice.
• We never connect to your bank or card accounts. We do not ask for, collect, or store your card numbers, banking credentials, or transaction history. The information in baku is what you choose to enter.
• Card benefits change constantly and vary by cardholder. We work to keep our credit catalog accurate, but we do not guarantee that any credit, amount, expiration, or rule shown in baku is current, complete, or applies to your specific account. Always confirm the details directly with your card issuer before relying on them.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use baku. By using the Service, you represent that you meet these requirements.

4. Your account

You sign in to baku with your Google account. You’re responsible for keeping access to that account secure and for all activity that happens under your baku account. Let us know promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

5. Public beta, plans, and pricing

baku is currently a free public beta. During the beta, the Service is completely free and there is no limit on the number of cards you can track. We are not charging anyone to use baku right now.

Because it’s a beta, baku is under active development. It may be unstable, change, or be unavailable at times, and features may be added, modified, or removed. While we take care with your information, you should not rely on baku as your only record of anything important.

We plan to introduce paid plans after the beta. When that happens:

• Free plan — track up to three (3) cards at no cost.
• baku Pro — track a fourth card or more for a subscription fee (expected to be $2.99 per month).

We will give you advance notice before any paid plan or charge takes effect, and you will never be charged without first signing up for a paid subscription. If you choose not to upgrade, you’ll keep access to the free features (and may need to reduce the number of cards you track to stay within the free limit).

Early-access thank-you.If you join baku during the public beta, you’ll keep the ability to track unlimited cards for freeeven after paid plans launch, for as long as you keep your baku account in good standing. It’s our way of thanking the people who showed up early.

Billing (once paid plans launch)

• Payments are processed by our payment provider, Stripe. We don’t receive or store your full card number.
• baku Pro is billed monthly in advance and renews automatically until you cancel. You authorize us (through Stripe) to charge your payment method each billing period.
• You can cancel anytime, effective at the end of your current billing period. When a paid subscription ends, you keep access to baku’s free features but may need to reduce the number of cards you track to stay within the free limit.
• Payments are non-refundable, including for partial billing periods, except where required by law.
• We may change our prices or plan limits. If we do, we’ll give you reasonable notice, and changes won’t take effect until your next billing period.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use baku for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms;
• scrape, copy, or systematically extract baku’s content or data, or attempt to access accounts or data that aren’t yours;
• reverse engineer, disrupt, overload, or interfere with the Service or its security; or
• resell or commercially exploit baku without our written permission.

7. Your data

The information you put into baku — the cards you track, anniversary dates, nicknames, and usage you log — belongs to you. You grant us a limited license to store and process that information solely to provide and improve the Service, as described in our Privacy Policy. You can export or delete your data at any time.

8. Card issuers and trademarks

baku references credit cards, issuers, and programs (for example, Chase, American Express, Capital One, and others) for identification and informational purposes only. All such names, logos, and trademarks are the property of their respective owners. baku is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any card issuer, bank, or rewards program.

9. No warranties

baku is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or accuracy. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the credit information it contains is accurate or current. Any reliance you place on baku is at your own risk.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, baku and Chester Leung will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any lost credits, rewards, savings, profits, or data, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months before the claim, or (b) fifty U.S. dollars ($50). Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.

11. Changes to the Service

We’re actively building baku and may add, change, or remove features, or suspend or discontinue the Service, at any time. We’ll try to give notice of significant changes where practical.

12. Termination

You can stop using baku and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or use the Service in a way that could cause harm or legal liability. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (for example, data ownership, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will survive.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of baku after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Before filing any formal claim, you agree to first contact us and try to resolve the issue informally. If we can’t, the courts located in California will have jurisdiction over any disputes, and you consent to that venue.

15. Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our consent. We may assign or transfer these Terms and our rights and obligations — for example, to a company later formed to operate baku, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets — and these Terms will continue to apply to the successor entity.
